The Sandwich Guy

Our new favorite place to eat is a little spot about 5 minutes away called The Sandwich Guy.

From Blogger Pictures

My favorite selection is the H.B.L.T.(Ham, Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato). And guess how much it is? Only 70 bucks!

The sandwiches are packed. Not shy on the meat. They also have pasta selection and yogurt-based fruit shakes. I heard that their other best-seller is the carbonara (also 70 bucks!).

Another plus: it is open 24-hours, Monday to Friday. Perfect for those late-night cravings. They deliver too!

If you want to see their branches and menu, please visit their website.

Walking in Memphis by Marc Cohn

One of my all-time favorite songs. Marc Cohn's vocals is still, to me, one of the best out there.

And Memphis was my favorite city to visit last year.

Put on my blue suede shoes
And I boarded the plane
Touched down in the land of the Delta Blues
In the middle of the pouring rain
W.C. Handy -- won't you look down over me
Yeah I got a first class ticket
But I'm as blue as a boy can be

Then I'm walking in Memphis
Walking with my feet ten feet off of Beale
Walking in Memphis
But do I really feel the way I feel

Saw the ghost of Elvis
On Union Avenue
Followed him up to the gates of Graceland
Then I watched him walk right through
Now security they did not see him
They just hovered 'round his tomb
But there's a pretty little thing
Waiting for the King
Down in the Jungle Room

(Chorus)

They've got catfish on the table
They've got gospel in the air
And Reverend Green be glad to see you
When you haven't got a prayer
But boy you've got a prayer in Memphis

Now Muriel plays piano
Every Friday at the Hollywood
And they brought me down to see her
And they asked me if I would --
Do a little number
And I sang with all my might
And she said --
"Tell me are you a Christian child?"
And I said "Ma'am I am tonight"

(Chorus)

Put on my blue suede shoes
And I boarded the plane
Touched down in the land of the Delta Blues
In the middle of the pouring rain
Touched down in the land of the Delta Blues
In the middle of the pouring rain

To Catch a Predator

Saw a 40-something Filipino man on Dateline NBC's "To Catch a Predator." Sad. Praying for him.

Jenga

Have you ever played Jenga? We played Saturday night in Hobbes and Landes in Bonifacio High Street and it went on forever.

Clumsy me, of course, toppled the whole thing over and lost.

I Just Can't Stop Loving You

TMZ.com has all the details. I usually avoid gossip/tabloid sites but today, I can't resist TMZ's extensive coverage of Michael Jackson's passing.

He has been many different things to different people. My heart goes out to him. He was the way he was because he was subjected to a crazy, make-believe world and that must have put an incredible amount of pressure on him.

My wish is that he had a true encounter with Jesus Christ before he passed. I can just imagine heaven with Michael Jackson in it -- how spectacular that would be!

Truly praying for his soul. And for his children.

My favorite Michael Jackson of all time:

And as Filipinos, how can we ever forget this:

His influence is incomparable. Goodbye MJ. Praying that there is no more sadness in your heart and that you are dancing with Him right now

Father's Day 2009

Man, I love home-cooked meals by Mom. We spent Father's Day weekend with my folks. Here is how meals are prepared in the Reyes household.

Aveya Illiana

I am officially a grand-auntie! Our niece, Ariel, gave birth a beautiful baby girl. I wish I were in Omaha right now holding her.

My June So Far

Summer staff getaways are mandatory for Filipino organizations. They call it "summer company outing."

Victory Christian Fellowship (Fort) had a day-long "outing" in Laguna. I chose not to swim but instead stay inside an air-conditioned room and play UNO with Robert, Teri and Mich.

One of my closest friends -- Michelle Nocon -- was in town for a visit. One of the things I truly love about her is that no matter the distance, she makes an effort to stay in touch.

And when she is in town, she will always say "I want to spend time with you." And to me, nothing communicates love better than quality time.

Had dinner for Teri Sambajon's birthday. Teri is Victory Fort's worship leader. I love her and I think she is one of the most beautiful women I know.

We participated in Operation Overdrive. This is a morning where members of the church were assigned key places in the city of Metro Manila and spend time praying for these assigned places.

It is such a blessing to pray among friends for a city that God wants to transform!

Robert was honored to be a "ninong" when Troy Maximus Ignacio and Anna Daniella Moran were dedicated to the Lord.
